Why did you decide on UC?

I did a lot of research on where to do my master’s degree in New Zealand, and UC stood out for its rich reputation, longstanding history, and high world rankings. I also talked to a lot of people who spoke highly about UC, and the campus is very beautiful.

What do you like about the MBIS degree?

I love the MBIS because it’s a perfect blend of both IT and business. I come from a technical background, so it helps me build on those skills, but you also get a lot of electives which make it flexible and convenient. There are so many options, you can choose subjects that fit your objectives and goals.

What kind of support is there for international students at UC Business School?

There’s always someone to help you out with anything you need. If you need help you’re your English, the English language programme will support you.

There’s also a service that teaches you how to do the assignments, because the process and approach is a bit different here than in India.

How do you find the New Zealand lifestyle?

Life in New Zealand is pretty relaxed. I love the peace and natural beauty. There are so many places to go and things to do beyond your studies, it’s a perfect work-life balance. I also love the people here, they’re so friendly. I felt right at home the day I landed.

What do you get up to when you are not studying?

I play cricket and enjoy running around Hagley Park or at Sumner Beach. I also like trying new cuisines from other countries, so every weekend I try a different restaurant. Christchurch city centre is so lively, and it’s easy to take a bus in.

How well do you think your degree is preparing you for your future career?

The practical experience you get from this course is what you need in the industry to build a successful career.

I actually already have a job offer for after I graduate, which is awesome because I want to stay and work here in New Zealand.

Why is Christchurch a good place to study from a career development perspective?

Christchurch is rebuilding, so there are a lot of start-ups of all different types here. It means a lot of business opportunity, especially in IT. The Big Four companies are here too. It’s a good city to build your career.

What benefits does your part-time work provide you?

I work part-time at a grocery store. It’s great to get some work experience in New Zealand while making some money. You can gain a lot of transferable skills, and you meet a lot of people and make connections.

Would you recommend UC to other international students?

Absolutely! It’s so friendly and the university is so supportive. It’s a huge, beautiful campus. We’ve got the mountains, the city, the hills. There are a lot of clubs and activities, and a huge mix of sports and cultural events, cafes, and places to explore.
