Renowned expert in Classical Greek poetry to visit in 2018

Dr. William Allan of University College, Oxford will visit UC in 2018.

The Classics department is delighted to announce that Dr. William Allan of University College, Oxford - expert in Greek poetry, in particular Greek tragic theatre - will be a Visiting Fellow in the Department under the Erskine Programme from January to March 2018.

While visiting, he will be teaching CLAS 201: Theatre and Performance in the Ancient World as a summer course from early January to mid-February. Enrolments for this course will open on October 4th. Joining Dr. Allan will be his wife, Dr. Laura Swift of the Open University (UK), also an expert on Greek poetry of the Archaic and Classical periods.

Enrica Sciarrino and Patrick O’Sullivan from the UC Classics department have previously secured fellowships as part of the Visiting Erskine Canterbury/Cambridge/Oxford Exchange Programme. We are excited to see this academic exchange continue with William Allan and Laura Swift’s visit to UC in 2018.
