Conjoint Degrees

We are offering two conjoint degrees in 2018

  • Conjoint BProdDesign and BCom (4 years)
  • Conjoint BProdDesign and BSc (4 years)

Industrial Product Design

Every product we buy has a combination of elements in both design and usability. This major will teach you how to design products which both solve a problem and create desire in consumers.

This degree promotes interdisciplinary innovation.  For example, Industrial Product Design with electives from physics or electrical engineering creates an intersection between mechanical and electronic product design.

Applied Immersive Game Design

Immersive game design covers both virtual and augmented reality where the software and hardware are at the beginning of massive growth. The development of games for entertainment and applied games for training, education and the carrying out of remote activities are included in this major.

This degree promotes interdisciplinary innovation.  For example, Applied Immersive Game Design with electives from physics or electrical engineering creates an intersection between mechanical and electronic product design.

Chemical, Natural and Healthcare Product Formulation

Chemical, biological, pharmaceutical, food, nutraceutical and personal care products are not comprised only of the main active ingredient(s) but must be formulated in a way that enables their practical use.

For example, a moisturising skin lotion must not only contain moistening agents but also the components required to create a stable colloidal suspension with suitable viscosity, skin feel and fragrance to make it an attractive product for the consumer, with antimicrobial agents and a suitably long shelf life.

This degree promotes interdisciplinary innovation.  For example, Chemical, Natural and Healthcare Product Formulation combined with electives from Biochemistry will create more natural products.

What should I take at school?

University Entrance through NCEA requirements or have completed the IB Diploma or have at least 120 points on the UCAS Tarriff with D grades in approved subjects for CIE.

At least 14 credits in Level 2 NCEA Science and Mathematics strongly recommended (have passed AS level Mathematics in CIE or have achieved a 4 SL Maths for IB), while those intending to take the Chemical & Healthcare Product Formulation major should ideally have 14 credits in Level 3 NCEA Chemistry (IB Chemistry with 4 HL or 6 SL; CIE Chemistry D grade (A level) or A grade (AS level).

NCEA credits in related subjects such as Digital Technologies, Technology, or Design and Visual Communication would be an advantage.
