When you enrol at UC, you are provided with a free UC student email account.

Your email address

Your UC student email address is username@uclive.ac.nz.

Accessing your email

Email for undergraduates is hosted by Microsoft Office 365. You can check your email through the web interface and entering your email address and password.

Email is the official communication channel between you and the University, so you must use your student email account when contacting UC by email. Check your student email at least once a week to ensure you don’t miss any important messages.

Forwarding email

You can connect up to five other accounts, for example Hotmail, Gmail, and Yahoo! Mail accounts. This lets you send, receive, and read mail from all the accounts in one place. Learn how to do this on the Microsoft Office website.

You can use Inbox rules to automatically forward or redirect messages sent to your mailbox to another account. Learn how to do this on the Microsoft Office website.

Email mailbox size

You have 25GB of space available in your mailbox. The maximum size limit for email attachments is 10MB.

Get email on your mobile device

You can use a mobile device to send and receive emails from your student email account. For detailed instructions for how to set up your mobile phone or other mobile device, see Mobile Phone Setup Wizard and Mobile Phone Setup Reference.

File storage

As a student, you automatically have 2GB of storage on your personal “P Drive”. This storage space is hosted locally on University of Canterbury servers.

If you started university before 1st June 2013, you will also have 7GB of OneDrive storage space.

OneDrive is free online storage for your files that you can access from anywhere. With SkyDrive, you can get to your photos, documents, and other important files wherever you are.

Access OneDrive online or download the OneDrive app on your iPhone or iPad, Android, or Windows Phone.

Activate and manage your student IT account

Before you can access your student email account, you will need to reset your IT account password by contacting IT Service Desk.

The password you create when you activate your student IT account will also give you access to all UC online systems, including LEARN, library resources, OneDrive, CareerHub and myUC.

Your email address

Your UC student email address is firstname.lastname@pg.canterbury.ac.nz.

The dedicated email client for postgraduates is Outlook.

You can also check your email through the web interface.
