Receiving the Ngāi Tahu Research Centre scholarship was a pivotal moment in my academic journey. After completing my undergraduate degree in 2024, I went on to pursue an Honours degree in Political Science and International Relations. The scholarship allowed me to focus on my studies without the added pressure of finances, giving me the time and energy to fully commit to my mahi.

The support from NTRC, alongside inspiring lecturers and supervisors, made a huge difference to both my confidence and academic performance. Because of this support, I was able to take up further opportunities, including a studentship at the Bioeconomy Science Institute Maiangi Taiao, working in Māori data governance. This experience helped open pathways into future employment and strengthened my confidence in a working environment.

Overall, the scholarship has had a really positive impact on my academic journey and future direction. I’m now continuing this pathway through a PhD focused on Māori data governance and sovereignty.

If you’re eligible, I’d definitely encourage you to apply — it really does make a difference.
