Jono is undertaking work to redefine how structural fire severity is calculated compared against standardised furnace test data. Drawing on the knowledge gained in his prior studies at the University of Canterbury in structural and fire engineering (BE Hons and MEngSt (Fire)) this work involves significant simulation of the response of structural systems exposed to fire. Jono enjoys exploring innovative solutions to complex problems and writing code to simulate said problems where necessary. Outside his research, he enjoys working with students with extensive experience working with students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Outside of the world of academics, he enjoys travelling and finding new places he's never been to before (even in his native Canterbury).
