HOW TO APPLY

My research interests focus on the interconnection of geoinformatics and environmental monitoring, with an emphasis on using advanced remote sensing techniques to address urban heat challenges by providing urban greening solutions. Specifically, I am interested in thermal remote sensing of urban heat island dynamics, studying urban morphologies using multispectral satellite imagery, lidar, and UAVs, and providing urban greening solutions to mitigate urban heat. Through my work, I aim to contribute to sustainable urban planning and environmental management by integrating cutting-edge remote sensing technologies with ecological insights.

Qualifications:

I hold a BSc degree in Agricultural Technology and Management from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka, as well as a master’s degree in Geoinformatics from the same university. Currently, I am pursuing a PhD within the Remote Sensing and Geospatial Analysis Lab group at the School of Forestry, University of Canterbury.

Proposed PhD Research Title: Monitoring Heat Islands and their Relationship to Greenspaces Using Remote Sensing Approaches in New Zealand Cities

Main Supervisor: Associate Professor Justin Morgenroth

Duration: August 2023 to July 2026
