Yu Li’s research aims to improve the accuracy of lateral wheel path distribution and load quantification, which refines the currently simplistic pavement design assumptions to limit construction and maintenance defects for NZ conditions. Also, differential loading of each side of wheels on the road with different road slopes will be quantified to update pavement deterioration models with real differential load data. Her research will contribute a specific, data-driven, and comprehensive analysis of the issues raised above for chip-sealed roads, further improving chip-sealed roads’ quality and prolonging maintenance intervals. Additionally, this approach can be extended to collect NZ data for other problems faced in transportation engineering.
