Teece Museum project

12 September 2024

In 2017 UC’s Music and Classics programmes, along with the James Logie Memorial Collection of classical antiquities, relocated to the UC Arts city location. You can find them in the restored Chemistry building in the Arts Centre in central Christchurch. Learn more about the Teece Museum project.

HOW TO APPLY

Originally built in 1910, the refit of the Chemistry building has been specifically designed for Music and Classics students and staff. The building includes a new exhibition space - the Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities, music practice suites, a recital space, a small lecture theatre and library, offices for staff, student workstations and a social area.

Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities - now open to the public

The Teece Museum, named in recognition of generous donors UC alumnus Professor David Teece and his wife Leigh Teece, features the James Logie Memorial Collection. The Logie Collection is at the heart of the Classics department’s teaching programme and is one of the most significant collections of Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Near Eastern artefacts in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Teece Museum is open to the public Wednesdays through to Sundays, 11am – 3pm. Schools and groups can also visit by appointment on Mondays and Tuesdays. Find out more about current exhibitions and what’s on at the Teece Museum

Music performances and events – attend for free

UC's School of Music offers an exciting programme of free music concerts and events in UC's new Recital Room in the Chemistry building at the Arts Centre. Find out what's on this month.
