Mehedi Emrul earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing at the University of Canterbury. He is now pursuing a full-time MBA at the Foster School of Business, University of Washington in Seattle, set to graduate in 2025.

Before starting his MBA, Mehedi achieved significant success in the corporate realm. At Vodafone New Zealand, he worked as a Product Marketing Automation Lead, excelling in customer retention and increasing product revenue.

Beyond his professional life, Mehedi is a true explorer. He has travelled extensively within and outside New Zealand, and deeply appreciates the great outdoors. You'll often find him immersed in a good book in his free time. But it's not just about solitary pursuits—Mehedi loves connecting with people. If you're in the USA, connect with him on LinkedIn. He's eager to build a vibrant UC alumni community.

What memory stands out to you from your time at UC?

There are countless memories from my time at UC and in Christchurch, but one particularly stands out—my role as the Marketing Director with 180 Degrees Consulting at UC. This opportunity allowed me to engage in several nonprofit consulting projects and work closely with UC’s Centre for Entrepreneurship. Collaborating with Director Rachel Wright and the entire UCE team was a highlight of my experience, and I cherish the lasting connections I made there.

What is your favourite thing about where you live?

Seattle is a stunningly beautiful city, rich with natural landscapes akin to New Zealand. I enjoy taking nature walks at Gas Works Park and exploring the local cafes. The region has much to offer, and I’m eager to continue discovering more about Seattle and its surroundings.

Is there any advice you would give fellow alumni who have moved to your area?

The weather in Seattle can be quite unpredictable; it often rains here, but the summers are absolutely stunning. Public transportation is efficient, and although living costs can be higher compared to New Zealand, the area is filled with opportunities, particularly with the presence of major technology companies.
