Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology

Intern Psychologist

Having always wanted to be a therapist, Alexandra was completed a variety of degrees in psychology and psychological research. She is currently studying UC's Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology, with the hope to be registered as a Clinical Psychologist in the near future and work in private practice.

As part of her programme, Alexandra is currently training as an Intern Psychologist, which involves performing psychological assessments, psychotherapy, and writing up reports on clients.

"I enjoy the practical nature of my degree – it's all so interesting. It's competitive, accepting around 11 people a year, so be prepared if you want to get in!"

Originally from the Hawke's Bay area, she decided on attending UC because Canterbury would be "a new adventure" as it was somewhere she hadn't been before.

Having recently moved back to New Zealand after living and studying in the UK for 10 years, Alexandra was keen on an accommodation option that was close to UC's campus, and decided on Graduate House.

"Graduate House has been fantastic as it has provided a comfortable base in which I can get to know the community and area at my own pace. It has also been a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Graduate House is the best place to begin your studies. Do it!" she says. "Hands down the friends that I've made has been the highlight!"
