Katherine, a highly motivated and passionate individual, completed the UC Master of Health Sciences Professional Practice (Nursing) at the University of Canterbury (UC).  Originally from Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia, Katherine chose UC for its unique opportunity that provides her with a distinct advantage in the field of nursing.

Katherine was drawn to the strengths of the programme, which combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience. The programme's ability to bring together individuals from diverse educational backgrounds allowed her to engage with a wide variety of perspectives and ideas related to nursing. The interactive discussions among classmates and lecturers fostered critical thinking and encouraged exploration of new approaches to nursing care.

The best thing about UC, according to Katherine, is the support and knowledge provided by the dedicated lecturers. Their passion for teaching and willingness to assist students with their academic endeavours fuelled Katherine's interest and passion for nursing.

For those considering studying in the field of nursing, Katherine advises them not to hesitate in asking questions, no matter how insignificant they may seem. The professors at UC are friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic about helping students, creating an environment where no inquiry is considered unwise.

Katherine's decision to come to New Zealand was influenced by several factors. She was captivated by the country's stunning natural landscapes and the opportunities it provides for outdoor activities. The warmth and friendliness of the people in New Zealand, along with the balanced approach to study and life during university, also appealed to her.

Katherine is currently employed as a Registered Nurse at Ashburton Hospital, part of Te Whatu Ora | Health New Zealand in Waitaha Canterbury, and she credits her study experience at UC for enhancing her work skills. She has learned the significance of asking questions, seeking clarity, and engaging in discussions with colleagues. This approach has deepened her understanding, expanded her knowledge, and sharpened her critical thinking abilities, all of which contribute to her effectiveness as a nurse.  With a solid foundation from UC, she is well-equipped to excel in her career and make a positive impact in the healthcare industry.
