UC was the ideal study location for master's student Paranee. After her undergraduate degree studies in Thailand, Paranee chose to further her education and travel horizons at the same time.

"The South Island is a gorgeous, natural place, I did not hesitate to choose New Zealand," she says. "I was sure that I could gain knowledge and experience from UC as it has a long history and is New Zealand's second oldest university. It is a high ranking university, with five QS Stars and great academic programmes."

Due to her dedicated study efforts, Paranee gained one of UC's prestigious Deans Awards.

"I enjoyed getting an in-depth understanding of this course because it is vital for me to adapt different knowledge in different situations. Studying a Master of Professional Accounting provides not only the essential knowledge for my future career aspirations, but also more information about accounting as well."

Shortly after graduating her MPA, Paranee returned to Thailand and gained a role in risk assurance auditing with PwC. She says her MPA studies has supported her work by developing her thinking skills and providing global perspectives in business.

Moving forward, her career goal is to become an expert in her field of accounting.

"This programme provided me the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue future professional roles, especially in subjects related to accounting principle and industry practice. These offer me confidence to challenge and adapt what I have learnt to solve problems in real situations. It is great way to explore the accounting field through different perspectives, from the diverse people in the course to professional lecturers."

Life at UC was supportive and provided some exciting social and study opportunities for Paranee.

"There is a dedicated support system provided by staff to support and nurture the talent of international students. They are kind and helpful in their endeavours. I got the chance to meet many international students from all over the world during my stint here at UC.

"For my project I conducted a research project at Environment Canterbury Regional Council. I got experience from both the host organisation and my supervisor who has high-level expertise. I also got opportunities for site visits with the ECan monitoring team.

"My project focused on fees and charges policy. In this project I reviewed the model of revenue, the fairness of the policy, and compared it with other regional councils."

With UC's strong clubs culture, Paranee has also been a member of one of the Church societies throughout her studies.

"We play games, sing songs, and have joint dinners with nice food," she says.

When she was not in the books, Paranee also loved getting outdoors and experiencing all New Zealand has to offer.

"I usually explored and enjoyed the spectacular scenery around Christchurch and across the South Island."
