The awards panel commended Ann-Marie's obvious passion for teaching, her student-centred approach to her work and her success in adopting a range of engaging practices in her teaching.
Ann-Marie treats each student as an individual and strives to foster their growth within the University and prepare them for a successful career in marketing and beyond. She dedicates herself to creating cutting edge teaching content through constant revision of material and incorporates current industry practice and skills into student assessments. She approaches teaching in a collaborative and interactive way to provide students with authentic experiences including project-based learning, often working with the challenge of large classes.
One of her students commented: "Her course (MKTG315) had a fantastic mix of theory and practical work that really helped me understand what we were learning. I feel that with the tools I have received I could actually go out and write a social marketing campaign in the industry." Another said: "She was very helpful with assignments, taught engaging lectures, and was sympathetic to the varying needs of students…One of the best lecturers I've had in my 8 years at university." Ann-Marie regularly seeks student feedback to ensure she is responding to her students' learning needs and she receives very high student evaluations. She has led the way in the Business School in adopting online and flipped classroom techniques and combines this strength with teaching leadership across the School and further afield at UC by mentoring colleagues. She never shies away from sharing her expertise, knowledge, and practices. She has also been a champion for the incorporation of bi-cultural competence in the curriculum through strong links to her own research.
Ann-Marie is committed to improving and developing her teaching practices as evidenced by her certificate in teaching, participating in the Erskine programme, securing contestable teaching grants and by becoming one of the first academics at UC to be awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
She is a vibrant, engaging and empathetic teacher who not only connects with students but also adapts her teaching to suit them and encourages them to think beyond the theoretical.
