Peter is deeply respected by his colleagues and students for his leadership and sustained excellence in teaching.
He has made an enormous contribution to teaching through his work as supervisor of numerous doctoral theses. His thesis students’ comment on his dedication, humility, patience, rigour and care for them as learners. They cite his ability to listen carefully, ask searching questions as necessary and enlist humour as key strands in his approach. His ongoing support and interest in his students, long after graduating are a testimony to his dedication.
He is known for his ability to inspire, guide and support students in drawing the best from them. Building relationships with genuine care and compassion are central to his work. His Head of School says that he has had a truly transformative impact on the lives of numerous students.
Peter is a world-leading researcher in his field and jointly led the development of a new degree at UC the Doctor of Education (EdD). He has also played a key role as a mentor for other academics, who speak highly of his wisdom, calmness, clarity and human touch in advancing their work as university teachers and researchers.
