Designing a haiku competition for her students and replacing revision groups with a lively pub quiz for chocolate fish were two of the novel teaching innovations trialled by Ursula in 2012 which reflect her commitment to making law accessible and enjoyable for her students.
Despite teaching large classes, her students talk about her approachability and her passion and enthusiasm for teaching which "make coming to her classes a delight" and led to a standing ovation. She encourages her students to be curious about the law and its place in society whilst developing their legal research and writing skills. She is a regular contributor to national television and radio, putting her research and teaching of media law in the spotlight.
Her work with the Socio-Legal Research Group at the Law School has received national funding and her postgraduates have gone on to achieve outstanding international success.
