Fourteen academics, who will assume their roles as professors in 2025, were honoured at the event yesterday afternoon alongside their whānau, colleagues, and Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury’s (UC) senior leaders.

“We pride ourselves on delivering a high standard of future-focused education and impactful research in a changing world,” says Tumu Tuarua Rangahau (Acting) Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Professor Peter Gostomski. “At the heart of this mission is the skill, talent, and passion of our academics, who create and share knowledge that benefits communities both locally and globally.”

Each of the new appointments was well deserved and reflected years of demonstrated extraordinary capability, Professor Gostomski says. “It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to celebrate the success of our talented staff at Hui Whakamānawa, including our outstanding researchers and educators.”

Successful applicants have demonstrated outstanding academic leadership, made significant contributions to the UC community and be outstanding representatives of the University nationally, and internationally.

Congratulations to UC’s newest professors on reaching this significant milestone in their academic careers:
