New digital exhibition platform

23 September 2021

Digital Voyages is a showcase of past and present digital resources created by students and staff of UC.

HOW TO APPLY

Dickens, Charles (1839). The life and adventures of Nicholas Nickleby. Macmillan Brown Library (Rare Books).

UC Library's new digital exhibition platform - Digital Voyages - has been created using the open source software Omeka S. It is available upon request for all UC staff and students to create and host digital projects. Guidelines, how to use the software and project request forms are all available on the Digital Voyages site.

Take a look at the Library's first project! Staff have created a site detailing the provenance of books held in the collections, with an emphasis on those held in the Macmillan Brown Library. The site shows the life of the works by detailing bookplates, signatures and various other forms of past ownership.

Currently in the first stages of development they have already made some fascinating discoveries such as works containing the signature of Charles Dickens (pictured above), works from the original Canterbury Association Library and numerous other individuals from the early European settlement of Waitaha. The site will continue to grow as new discoveries are made.
