SciVal, a web-based analytics solution, was recently purchased by UC. This November the Library is offering three classes designed for academics and delivered via Zoom. My research outputs in SciVal
Understanding your own research metrics based on your outputs can be very powerful. This one hour session will showcase the use of SciVal to help understand what your metrics look like, what the metrics mean and how you can use them effectively. In the session, we will showcase basic functionality in SciVal like: how to find yourself, how the data links back to Scopus and definitions of the metrics which you can use in the future. The session will also step through the creation of narrative for researcher profiles and briefly show how a researcher may benchmark themselves against another.

How to identify publication trends and collaborators using SciVal
Understanding niche areas of research is critical to seeing trends in your research area. SciVal Topics are a collection of documents with a common intellectual interest and can be large or small, new or old, growing or declining in momentum. This session will step through the Topics that exist in SciVal, showcasing what they mean, their applicable metrics and where they have momentum. SciVal Topics can also be a powerful tool to identify the “guru” in the field and who else around the world publishes in the same niche areas and would they make a good collaborator.

Strategic publishing using SciVal
A critical skill to learn and foster is the development of a well-constructed publication strategy. Knowing which journal is best for you using journal metrics can be essential to create that strategy. This session will step through the construction of journal metrics, where they can be found in SciVal and how best to build on the previous session to understand which are the journals that the leading researchers are publishing in and how best to compare them.
