The Organizational Psychology MicroMasters programme is unique in Aotearoa New Zealand and already attracting a global following on UCx – the University of Canterbury’s online learning platform.

HOW TO APPLY

(L to R): Professor Katharina Näswall, Dr Fleur Pawsey and Associate Professor Joana Kuntz are instructors for UC’s Organizational Psychology MicroMasters programme, which was specifically created to fill global demand and is available on UCx – the University’s online learning platform.

A free online learning resource, UC’s new MicroMasters programme provides valuable insights into recruitment, performance and motivation at work, leadership, supporting employee wellbeing, and organisational change and innovation. People can enrol at any time, progress at their own speed and, for a fee, can choose to have their work certified.

SDG 4 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 - Quality Education

The only Organizational Psychology MicroMasters programme available on edX, it was specifically created to fill global demand.

“We had some conversations with edX around gaps in their programmes and how we could help,” explains Professor Mick Grimley, Director of Future Learning and Development at UC. “We identified huge international demand in the area of organisational psychology and, with our strengths in this field, UC was well-placed to respond.”

More than 4000 enrolments have already been received from both domestic and international students for three of the five graduate-level courses now under way. The remaining two courses begin mid-2022.

Since UC joined the global online learning provider edX in 2020, a number of free short massive open online courses (MOOCs) have been rolled out, along with professional certification options (comprising two MOOCs). Bringing five courses together into this new MicroMasters programme builds the UCx presence and UC’s international reach. For eligible participants, it creates a potential pathway to UC’s Master of Science degree in Industrial and Organisational Psychology.

Associate Professor Joana KuntzProfessor Katharina Näswall and Dr Fleur Pawsey, of UC’s School of Psychology, Speech and Hearing, are the MicroMasters programme’s instructors.

“We see our MicroMasters programme as very useful for anyone wanting to make their organisations work better, such as people working in human relations,” says Professor Näswall. “It is also suitable for psychology graduates thinking about postgraduate study. We have designed the courses for a broad audience including people with no experience of tertiary studies as well as students with some background in psychology.”

Course resources include online videos and presentations along with in-depth reading materials and learning checks.
