About the Event

After a 3-year hiatus, we are pleased to announce the return of the New Zealand Discourse Conference! We welcome 20-minute presentations from any discipline and any framework within discourse analysis and discourse studies. As our attention increasingly turns to issues of social justice, we particularly encourage abstracts in the areas of social and linguistic injustice. Plenary speakers are Susan Ehrlich (Professor of Linguistics, York University) and Māmari Stephens (Reader in Law, Victoria University of Wellington).

Hosted at the University of Canterbury by our Linguistics department, join us for 2 days of exploring discourse ideas, connecting through academia and networking. This multi-day conference will run over Friday 6th and Saturday 7th of December, with an additional pre-conference meet up on the Thursday late afternoon/evening. On Friday night, there will be a chance to come together for dinner (pay as you go).

This event is open to all. Internal UC staff and students are especially encouraged to participate.

For those UC staff and students wanting to make use of the UC rates, please ensure your funding is approved and your abstraxt is accepted before registering, Please send your abstract (250 words plus 5 key words) through to meredith.marra@canterbury.ac.nz by 21 October 2024. Acceptances by 31 October 2024. If you would like to be considered for a student scholarship to cover registration costs (total 4 scholarships), please indicate this with your abstract.

Please reach out to meredith.marra@canterbury.ac.nz if you have any further questions.
