Examinations - Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK)

Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) is an international standardised test of Chinese language proficiency. It assesses the ability of non-native speakers to communicate in life, study, and work. Learn more about these examinations.

HOW TO APPLY

Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK)

The Confucius Institute at the University of Canterbury (CIUC) offers three types of examination of Chinese: HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test), HSKK (HSK speaking Test) and YCT (Youth Chinese Test).

The Chinese Testing International Co., Ltd. (CTI) in Beijing runs the HSK, HSKK and YCT both in China and across the globe. You can Visit CTI website www.chinesetest.cn to download test guidelines and sample materials, or purchase exam preparation materials from the Confucius Institute shop.

Those who achieve high marks in HSK tests may be eligible to apply for scholarships offered by The Centre for Chinese Language and Cooperation (CLEC) to study in China.

Exam Registration & Payment in TWO steps:

Step 1. Registration: Register at the test centre of Confucius Institute at University of Canterbury at https://www.chinesetest.cn/kdInfo?id=2063202. During the process, a step called “pay online” will appear: please ignore it as this is designed only for those who take exams in China.

Please note that you need to select "paper-based test" as test format and "Confucius Institute at University of Canterbury" as your test centre.

Step 2. Payment: Make the online payment at Chinese Proficiency Test Payment

※   Ensure you do BOTH before the deadline date, usually a month before exam date.

Test Admission ticket

Download and print the ticket a week before the test at Chinese Test website: www.chinesetest.cn.

You MUST HAVE THIS, along with your official ID that you used for your registration, to sit the test.

Exam results and certificates

The test results are available online at www.chinesetest.cn approximately a month after the exam.

Certificates can be collected from the CIUC office approximately two months after the test.

Please note that all CIUC Examinations are held in-person here on the University of Canterbury campus, with no online or electronic examination options available.
