The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree involves extensive, sustained and original research and study, with the results being presented in a thesis which will contribute to the intellectual knowledge of the field. Enrolment in a PhD requires completion of an Honours or Master’s degree to a high standard (typically first-class or second-class division one). You must have completed an independent research project/dissertation or thesis as part of your previous degree/s.
Many of WRC's PhD students have an Electrical and Electronic Engineering background, but some have a background in Computer Science and Software Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Occasionally we have students from other areas of science. If we find there is mutual interest in a topic, WRC will find the most appropriate academic department and co-supervisor for you to work with.
WRC co-supervise postgraduate level work with a number of different departments such as Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Software Engineering, School of Mathematics and Statistics and Psychology.
