ChatGPT Team from OpenAI
ChatGPT Team is a service from OpenAI that supports collaborative use of their ChatGPT tool by teams. ChatGPT Team is available via a subscription that is paid per user, per month. The cost of those subscriptions will be charged to the team that is using that instance of the service.
Each ChatGPT Team has an “Owner” who can add other Team members. Some team members can be Admins who can add, remove or change other Team members. Any member can invite another person to be a member. However, only Owners can make other members into Admins, remove Admin rights or transfer Ownership to another member.
Team members interact with ChatGPT Team in the context of a “Workspace”. Workspaces can be personal for one member or collaborative - available to several or all members. Workspaces are only available to that Team. You can initiate a subscription to ChatGPT Team by opening ChatGPT, starting with a free user account and then initiating your first workspace with the “Upgrade plan” link (currently bottom-left of the screen for logged-in users).
Within a Workspace, members with access can interact with ChatGPT using chat prompts and completions where the members individually input text or upload images and other files and ChatGPT responds using the predictive language of a GPT-4 model or the image-generation capability of DALL-E 3.
Beyond this basic functionality, ChatGPT Team also allows users to create and share variations of ChatGPT – each one called a “GPT” - that are tailored, using subject-matter texts and other material, for some specific purpose. ChatGPT Team also supports Advanced Data Analysis, a feature that allows the upload of datasets. Users can interact with that data in a rich way. For example, with Advanced Data Analysis your data is automatically presented in an interactive table and ChatGPT Team recommends chart and plot types that might be good fits. Those charts and plots can themselves be interactive.
ChatGPT Team does not use any of your inputs or uploads for the purpose of training models. Furthermore, Workspaces are restricted to just members with access to them. These measures ensure your privacy and that your data is well-protected. Another offering, ChatGPT Plus, requires you to actively opt-out from allowing OpenAI to use your prompts and file uploads to train their models. For this reason we do not recommend the use of ChatGPT Plus.
Note: We do support the OpenAI ChatGPT API for use-cases that require a coded solution to call out to a GPT service with prompts and get back completions. To make use of the OpenAI ChatGPT API you need to clearly articulate your use-case and take it for submission through the University of Canterbury Digital Services governance process – the Digital Design Authority (or DDA).
