The 21st ANZAM Operations, Supply Chain, and Services Management Symposium, hosted by the Department of Management, Marketing, and Tourism at the University of Canterbury, presents the theme for 2024: "Operations & Supply Chains in the Post-Pandemic Era." We extend an invitation for you to join us in unraveling the intricacies and vulnerabilities within operations and supply chains, exploring the transformative potential inherent in technological and social innovations to construct sustainable and resilient supply chains in the aftermath of the pandemic crisis.

The COVID-19 pandemic has generated significant changes in consumer behaviours, resulting in noticeable effects on demand trends and suppliers’ strategies. The epidemic has emphasised the fragility of the supply chain, leading to shortages of key products and interruptions in global delivery networks that are still ongoing. Localised systems, agile production, flexible manufacturing, and AI are utilised to oversee the supply chain in the post-pandemic period. However, despite these progressions, issues like the social and environmental consequences of redundancies and the sustainability of remote employment require thoughtful evaluation.

In response to these challenges, the symposium poses critical questions that navigate the post-crisis landscape: What enduring impacts will the crisis have on traditional supply chain strategies? What is the potential impact of supply chain strategy modifications on sustainability and climate change mitigation?  How can the transition to sustainable and resilient supply chains be effectively navigated in the post-pandemic world? This symposium aims to provide a comprehensive platform for academics, industry partners, research students, and other practitioners to take a deep dive into unprecedented opportunities for coping with post-pandemic supply chain challenges, with a deliberate emphasis on addressing climate change and promoting sustainability.
