Abstract
The Department of Accounting and Information Systems is pleased to present Noel Hyndman, Professor Emeritus in Accounting at Queen’s University Belfast as guest speaker for our Pallot Lecture 2018.
Professor Hyndman will reflect on the long (and painful) history (and recent challenges) of UK charities with respect to accounting and reporting. He argues strongly that a good charity reporting framework is absolutely essential to its growth and the safeguarding of the vital social capital that charities contribute. In doing so, he provides a basis for reflection for the New Zealand charity sector.
Biography
Noel Hyndman is Professor Emeritus at Queen’s University Belfast. In the early 2000s, he worked (and published) with June Pallot when researching politicians’ understanding and use of new accounting tools.
Noel’s main research interests focus on public-sector and charity reporting change, considering why and how changes occur (and considering their impact), being particularly interested in public policy relating to accounting change. Noel has been the sole academic member of the UK Charity Statement of Recommended Practice Committee (under the auspices of the Charity Commission England and Wales) since 2006, an expert committee that determines charity accounting and reporting requirements of all UK charities. He is one of the authors of the recently published book ‘Charity Accounting and Reporting at a Time of Change’ published by Chartered Accountants Ireland.
