Distance students

  • Your programme begins on Monday 27 January - Friday 7 February 2025, with a compulsory On-site Intensive programme (OSI) in Christchurch. This includes an introduction to UC and the Faculty of Education, an introduction to tertiary study, a compulsory workshop on the Treaty of Waitangi, a noho marae experience (a visit to a marae, including an overnight stay) and course work. It also provides opportunities to meet your fellow students and the staff. For the OSI please ensure you are available for full days. For these two weeks please DO NOT rely on your timetable for confirmed times and venues. During your first day on campus, you will meet the Programme Coordinator who will provide and confirm a customised timetable for your cohort for the two-week OSI programme.
  • On your first day, Monday 27 January, you will arrive on the Ilam campus at 8:30am outside C block, to register and prepare for the Mihi whakatau (a formal welcome ceremony). Information about Mihi whakatau, including appropriate attire, can be found on our website.
  • Noho marae overnight stay is scheduled for Thursday 30 January, returning to campus Friday. Appropriate attire is required for the pōwhiri ceremony at the marae, and you are also required to bring your own bedding for the overnight stay. Detailed instructions will be provided at the noho marae briefing.
  • Please note Thursday 6 February is Waitangi day (public holiday). No teaching on this day.
  • Please note: Travel and accommodation costs associated with your OSIs are not included in your course fees. You need to set funds aside to cover these yourself.
  • Distance study is not currently available for students completing the Secondary Education endorsement, only the alternative entry pathway.
