Introduction

Forestry offers a surprising array of career options both within Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally. Graduates can work in consultancies, management companies, government departments and environmental agencies, and within fields as diverse as conservation, forest protection, biosecurity, forest management, operations, and policy. Graduates from the Master of Forestry Science (MForSc) within the research pathway and the PhD can also look at careers with research agencies or secondary/tertiary institutions.

The MForSc has three separate pathways with a combination of courses and a six-month research report; courses and a one-year thesis; or thesis alone depending on the career pathway the student wishes to pursue on graduation. Individuals enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Forestry (PGDipFor) can apply to transfer to the second year of the MForSc with a suitable Grade Point Average.

PGDipFor and MForSc students enrolled in courses enjoy a balanced mix of classroom, lab, and field based teaching.
