HOW TO APPLY

Sims Empire Scholarship

BACKGROUND

The award was founded by Arthur Sims (1877–1969) and Agnes Marian (Nancy) Sims (née Todd) in 1945. Sir Arthur was a student of Canterbury College who graduated with an MA in Chemistry with first class honours and received an honorary LLD through Canterbury University College in 1955. He was a prominent industrialist and cricketer, and with Lady Sims he is also remembered for his philanthropy. In 1993 the estate of Mrs NMG Black contributed to the scholarship’s fund.

The scholarship supports graduates of Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury with a background in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, or any related subject, or in a medical or other health-related field, to undertake further study in Great Britain.
