The Diploma in Advancing University Studies (DipAdvUniStud) offers students a pre-master’s university qualification which provides a direct pathway into UC’s master’s degree programmes. You can complete advanced courses in a wide range of subjects in Arts, Commerce, and Science, and obtain the necessary skills to go onto postgraduate studies at UC.
This programme is particularly suited for those looking to advance their career opportunities through academic study, or for international students wanting to transition to higher-level study in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The DipAdvUniStud also includes courses unique to Aotearoa in bicultural awareness to prepare you for work in the local industry, or to reflect on international culture in your subject field.
To enrol in the Diploma in Advancing University Studies, you will need to have previously completed a university-level certificate or diploma programme (or equivalent) of at least 2 years full-time study.
If English is your additional language, you are also required to meet UC's English language requirements.

The DipAdvUniStud is made up of 120 total points. At least 90 points are 300-level courses, with at least 60 of these in a single subject. The 300-level courses will generally be in the same subject area as previously studied.
The Diploma includes a compulsory academic writing course, and an elective course based on your intended focus in Arts, Commerce, or Science areas.
The Diploma can be started in February or July, and will take 1 year (two semesters) of full-time study to complete, or up to 4 years part-time.

The remaining 90 points in the Diploma are chosen from the 300-level courses in the subject areas below. At least 60 of these points must be completed from one subject area:
2024 tuition fee estimate: $6,748 - $7,822 (120 points)
2025 tuition fee estimate: $7,153 - $8,291 (120 points)
2024 tuition fee estimate: $31,600 - $39,900 per 120 points
2025 tuition fee estimate: $32,400 per 120 points
2024 SSL: $9.17 per point ($1,100.40 for 120 points)
2025 SSL: $9.72 per point ($1,166.40 for 120 points)
The Diploma in Advancing University Studies is preparation for postgraduate master’s studies at UC in your chosen subject.
You may also instead choose to credit your completed courses to the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce, or Bachelor of Science before graduating with the Diploma, depending on your subject choices.
