We aim to give our students practical experience so they can apply their skills and ideas to a wide variety of situations. Learn more about providing employable, innovative, and enterprising kaupapa to support our students.

Kaupapa

The kaupapa outlined below are overarching ideas on which to base more specific pedagogy, activities and experiences. Learning outcomes can be linked directly to them, as can course assessments. They provide a macro view to inform curriculum and do not define how these are to be applied to individual programmes of study.

Examples
  • Complete a portfolio as an assessment task
  • Develop their own assessment task to demonstrate an agreed outcome
  • Summarise, paraphrase, create analogies, metaphors
  • Engage in a self-directed small research project
  • Conduct a model UN/debate critical issues within the discipline
  • Analyse a range of communication formats in class and consider suitability for various purposes/audiences and talk about what needs to change for different audiences and different formats
  • Compare formal reports to business reports, or multimedia presentations to a live audience, or presenting information via an interactive website
  • Critique a document
  • Explain general theories and principles to two different audiences: 1) expert in the field, 2) a non-expert, keen learner
  • Use a problem-based learning activity in a tutorial
  • Use IT tools to create presentations/brochures
  • Generate multiple solutions for one problem as a class and conduct a consensus debate
  • Volunteer for a local community organisation and devise a workable solution for a community-identified problem.
