The art of making casts is an ancient one. Dating to around the seventh millennium BC, the earliest known plaster casts are five Neolithic busts and statues found in Jordan, which were constructed from plaster and reed bundles. The Egyptians, Greeks and and Romans used stucco (fine plaster) to create decorative architectural features and art objects, such as portrait busts. During the Renaissance plaster was widely used in manufacturing and it is still used by a wide range of professions today.
