14 August 2020

The University of Canterbury (UC) and Lincoln University (LU) have been working together to deliver Te Mātāpuna Mātātahi | Children’s University in the Canterbury region. The universities are collaborating with local stakeholders and iwi to offer children learning opportunities outside of the classroom.

HOW TO APPLY

Children’s University aims to raise young people’s aspirations for higher education and encourage lifelong learning. In 2018, UC and LU partnered to provide the programme – the first of its kind in New Zealand.

There are two components to the programme:

  • Passport to Learning for children aged 7 – 14 years
  • Passport to Volunteering for young people aged 14-18 years

Once 30 hours of learning or volunteering are reached, students are invited to attend a graduation ceremony to celebrate their achievements.
