Three early career researchers awarded Rutherford Fellowships

Three University of Canterbury | Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha postdoctoral researchers have been awarded two-year Rutherford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships worth $170,000 each.

UC’s Dr Daniel Gomez Isaza, Dr Ryan Ridden-Harper and Dr Katherine Yates scooped three of the six Rutherford Fellowships announced today by Te Apārangi Royal Society.

The Rutherford Foundation Fellowships seek to develop human capability in research, science, technology, social sciences and the humanities, The fellowships early career researchers to establish a foundation on which to build an independent research career.

The funding opportunities support early career researchers who demonstrate a passion for research and have a strong sense of the purpose and benefits of research to Aotearoa New Zealand.

UC Rutherford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships:

  • Dr Daniel Gomez Isaza for research entitled: Thermal phenotypic plasticity of New Zealand fishes in response to increased thermal variability (returning from Murdoch University, Perth, Australia)
  • Dr Ryan Ridden-Harper for research entitled: Revealing the mysteries of exploding stars with Ōtehīwai | Mt John Observatory
  • Dr Katherine Yates for research entitled: Seismic slope stability in a changing climate: quantifying the future stability of New Zealand’s loess slopes.
