We organise day trips to Canterbury-based Aruhiko - PEET Member sites and an annual 4-day Power Systems Field Trip. Field trips are organised and administered by the EPECentre with financial and industry support provided through the membership of the Aruhiko Power Engineering Excellence Trust (PEET).
The annual Power Systems Field Trip takes place in the North Island and South Island on alternate years. Usually held in the UC mid-semester 1 break (April), we take around 30 students to see the inner workings of NZ hydropower stations, wind farms, geothermal and co-generation plants, as well as some key consumers.
The Power Systems Field Trips are continually rated by students as the best at UC, giving insight and bringing to life learning in true context. Seats on the trips are limited and in high demand.
South Island: This four-day trip typically visits Wind and Hydro Power Stations from Bluff to the Waitaki Valley.
North Island: This four-day trip typically starts in Wellington where we visit wind farms and the northern terminal of the inter-island HVDC link, as well as geothermal stations, and finishes at Huntly to examine a thermal power station.
