Connect locally and globally

21 August 2023

You can complete an Arts Internship in Ōtautahi | Christchurch or study a semester abroad. Get in touch if you'd like to find out how to connect locally and globally through Arts at UC.

HOW TO APPLY
Gain a competitive edge

We have range of internships in a variety of industries that will give you the opportunity to apply the theories you’ll learn and gain a competitive edge when you graduate. There are opportunities to go with a group to Thailand or China as well as individual internships across the globe.

"The aim of the programme is to make students aware of their skills beyond just the subject they are studying," says Internships Coordinator Dr Stephen Hardman. "They also gain more of an understanding about research — it can be about investigating a topic that has real-world relevance."

How internships work

The programme consists of three components — an internship with a business or community organisation, a related academic research element, and weekly group sessions where students reflect on their experience.

Get career ready

Students have worked on projects as diverse as analysing social media, website content development, event organisation, policy analysis, media strategy development, business systems analysis, marketing and fundraising, and oral history research. “It just shows how transferable an Arts degree is into any industry or organisation — it’s the skills they acquire while studying that subject that are valuable.”

Timothy Robson

"I was keen to get some work experience so I spent a summer interning for a non-profit organisation called The Britten Institute. I think it’s essential to do an internship as part of an Arts degree. It gives you real world application of your skills. It helps you figure out what you like and want to do. Plus it gives you real work stories to fall back on in a job interview."

Go on exchange programmes

We’re taking the Arts to the world with our global reach. UC has exchange agreements with over 50 universities worldwide that you can benefit from. And we also bring the world to UC. We have world leading experts amongst our staff and bring international academics and researchers to teach at UC each year. We don’t just promise a global perspective, we deliver a global experience.
