Meteorology equipment

11 October 2024

UC's School of Earth and Environment is uniquely placed in New Zealand as we offer meteorological observational systems that help understand atmospheric dynamics and land-atmospheric interactions. Check out the Meteorology equipment we have available.

HOW TO APPLY

We have advanced meteorological systems that allow our academic and research staff to probe processes and investigate theory, but also produce knowledge that is applied.

Applied meteorology examples include agricultural meteorology, weather and climate forecasting, renewable energy (wind and hydro) resource assessment, air pollution, wild fire-atmospheric interactions, and urban meteorology.

We are interested in studying the atmosphere close to Earth’s surface, or the atmospheric boundary layer (first 2 km above ground), this is the most significant layer in the atmosphere as it is where we live, grow our food, and collect our water.

Selection of meteorology gear

  • Eddy Covariance systems
  • Sound detection and raging (SODAR)
  • Radio Acoustic Sounding System
  • Research grade infrared cameras
  • Alpine weather stations
  • Hobo temperature loggers
  • UAV mounted turbulence probe
  • UAV mounted meteorological systems
  • Tethered meteorological kites
  • Tethered meteorological balloons
