Chinese

Introduction

The Chinese programme teaches and supervises research on a wide range of topics – literary or cinematic, traditional or modern – focusing on China and the Chinese-speaking world. Our students are trained in critical thinking and academic writing, equipping them for diverse careers in the world or within universities.

The Chinese programme is part of the Department of Global, Cultural and Language Studies and is affiliated with Cultural Studies and Cinema Studies programmes at UC.

What will my study involve?

  • In addition to mainland-focused Chinese Studies, staff of the UC Chinese programme can supervise PhD thesis work on Sinophone Studies, which focuses on Chinese minorities and overseas Chinese-speaking communities, such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and Chinese America.
