Translation and Interpreting studies at UC prepares you to work as a language translator (working with written text) or language interpreter (working with spoken communications in real time).
UC offers several degrees ranging from introductory training in translating and interpreting through to advanced PhD research level.
You can study translation and interpreting for Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, or Te Reo Māori. Other languages may be available with approved supervision.

There is a growing demand for professional translators and interpreters, particularly in medical and legal settings, business and politics, entertainment, and research.
All of UC’s Translation and Interpreting degrees are endorsed by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI), making you eligible to sit NAATI exams following graduation.
Depending on the degree, you may also be eligible for membership of the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters (NZSTI).
