Step Basic

30 January 2024

Step Basic offers a foundational introduction to a Step class, focusing on basic movements that you’ll see in most Step classes without overloading your brain with complex choreography.

HOW TO APPLY
What to Expect

You’ll learn a routine built up over the entire class, finishing with a grand finale. These routines will be simple and easy to follow, allowing you to learn – and practice – the movements as well as how to get up and around your step safely. Instructors keep the same routine for 3-4 weeks, which gives you the opportunity each week to master it. Practice makes perfect!

Adding Intensity

Want to level up your Step Basic workout and increase your heart rate? You can:

  • Increase your step height.
  • Add jumps or propulsions (the instructor will show you how for particular moves).
  • Increase the range of motion of moves (think higher knees, bigger kicks).
  • Get your arms moving above your head more.
Benefits of Step Basic
  • Increase aerobic capacity through improved cardiovascular fitness.
  • Build strength and muscular endurance, particularly in the lower body.
  • Improved coordination and balance.
Caution for Individuals with Injuries

In our experience, people with certain knee injuries find this class difficult. However, everyone is different. So, give it a whirl and see how you feel. You can always leave the class if it's not working for you, but please let the instructor know beforehand if you are at all unsure.  The instructor will be sure to include more appropriate options throughout the class for you.
