NZ scientists flying to Antarctica after 14-day isolation to keep continent COVID-free

A group of New Zealand scientists, including Professor Adrian McDonald from UC’s Gateway Antarctica, will fly to Antarctica this week, but only after completing 14 days in managed isolation – ensuring the last COVID-free place on Earth, remains that way.

Adrian McDonald is director of UC’s Gateway Antarctica and has visited the ice 17 times since his first trip in 2002. He will be involved in three areas of research but the primary project will be to study the atmosphere above the continent.
