HEA Fellowship

07 March 2024

UC offers support for teaching staff who want their commitment to learning and teaching in higher education recognised through the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. Getting a fellowship is a great opportunity to take stock of your teaching achievements.

HOW TO APPLY

HEA Fellowship Scheme

UC is offering support for teaching staff who wish to have their commitment to learning and teaching in HE recognised through Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (part of AdvanceHE).

This international recognition for teachers in higher education has over 111,000 fellows world-wide in four grades: Associate Fellow, Fellow, Senior Fellow, and Principal Fellow. Obtaining a Fellowship is a great opportunity to take stock of your achievements in teaching, and achieve an internationally accepted indicator of your commitment to quality teaching.

More information about the different grades of fellowship can be found on the HEA website and some testimonials of UC colleagues who have gone through the process are here.

What Will I Need to Do?

The process involves writing a teaching portfolio which is peer-reviewed by international assessors. You will receive structured support and feedback during the writing process. The total time-commitment is approximately 40 hours.

Funding is available for approximately 10-12 staff annually to pay for the portfolio assessment fee. To be eligible for financial support, you must

  • Be a continuing member of staff.
  • Have at least two years of teaching experience.
  • Apply for the grade of Fellow or Senior Fellow.
  • Commit to developing your portfolio during a single year.
  • Submit your portfolio for assessment no later than December in the given year.
