Derek Lardelli (New Zealander, b.1961)

Derek Lardelli was born in 1961, and is affiliated to Ngāti Porou, Rongowhakaata, Ngāti Kanohi (Ngai Te Riwai), and Ngāti Kaipoho (Ngai Te Aweawe). Although he works in a variety of media, Lardelli is regarded as one of New Zealand’s finest tā moko or body art artists. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and workshops in New Zealand and overseas, and in 2006 completed a Masters in Fine Arts at Canterbury University School of Fine Arts. Lardellli is currently principal tutor at Toihoukura School of Māori Visual Arts at Tairawhiti Polytechnic in Gisborne.
