Rosemary Johnson was born in Christchurch and studied at the University Of Canterbury School Of Fine Art, and the Central School of Art and Design in London. She held her first solo show at Barry Lett Galleries in 1970, exhibited with the Canterbury Society of Arts, and was a member of The Group. In 1972 Johnson renewed her connection to the University, taking up a teaching position in the Department of Extension Studies. Examples of her work are held in the collections of the Museum of New Zealand, the Dowse and the Christchurch Art Gallery. She also completed several works on commission, including a water feature for Christchurch Airport in 1975.
