What is Research Data?
Research data is defined as evidence that underpins the answer to a research question and can be used to validate finding regardless of its form (e.g. print, digital, or physical).
Research data can be both quantitative information or qualitative statements generated in the course of performing research. Data may be raw, primary, derived from primary data, or derived from existing sources where the rights may be held by others.
Administrative data created and used in the management or conducting of research is considered institutional data and is governed by the University’s Data Governance Policy.
Managing research data is throughout all stages of the research data lifecycle. For more information on managing research data, please see the UC Library's libguides page.
